Since her launch July 18, 2007 at Multiplast yard, Brit Air has reached Port-la-Forêt harbour (South Brittany) where he get her 180° righting test. Thus, mast has been dropped before 90° and 10° new righting tests. Sea trials will come after.

Having taken twelve months to build, the 60’ IMOCA monohull Generali that Yann Elies will sail in the next Vendee Globe, has just been launched at the Multiplast yard in Vannes. While the yacht is the 8th monohull to be built by the yard, this is however the first prototype with a canting keel and a 4.5-m draught.

Building got underway in May 2006 on the IMOCA 60’ monohull for the French skipper Yann Elies. Multiplast is building the yacht for Elies’ entry in the Vendée Globe 2008. Deck and hull have just been assembled in the yard in Vannes, in southern Brittany.

The 2003 Solitaire du Figaro winner Armel Le Cléac’h and his sponsor Brit Air have chosen the Multiplast yard to build their new Imoca 60’ monohull for the 2008 Vendée Globe. Designed by the Finot Group, the boat will start to take shape in Vannes (southern Brittany, France) in early October 2006.

What an incredible cavalcade the maxi catamaran Orange II put on across the North Atlantic. Multiplast and the Gilles Ollier Design Team can add another prestigious trophy to their achievements board. They now hold all of the major sailing records possible with the Atlantic record, the round the world record, the greatest distance covered in 24 hours and the Mediterranean.

The idea of a very first short-distance race aimed exclusively at maxi-multihulls first saw the light of day one year ago. It is intended that in June 2007, the fleet will line up on the start in Le Morbihan, bound for Iceland and run a course of around 3200 miles / 6000 km. From the time the idea first sprung to mind, it has been supported by skippers and owners.

The construction of Groupama 3 got underway at the Multiplast yard some nine months ago. Groupama 3, is the 6th maxi-multihull nearly 100 feet (30 m) long to have been built by the yard since the year 2000. At the time of writing, mid-September 2005, the yard is halfway through the maxi-multi build process, the assembly of the main hull and forebeam being scheduled for the end of October.

News of Orange II’s technical performance has travelled the world. In the wake of Orange II built in Multiplast’s brand new production unit in Vannes, the shipyard remains the favourite for ocean-racing multihulls. Idec, Magic Cat, Geronimo and Foncia follwed one another as other Multiplast teams worked on sites beyond the yard – in Lorient on Orange II or in the south of France for fitting all carbon spheres for helicopter flight simulators.

Just 48 hours for Multiplast was all that was that needed to effect repairs to Orange II’s crash box, still quayside in Lorient (Atlantic coast). On a 24/24 hour relay, the yard’s teams worked in rotation to enable the maxi catamaran to set off again as quickly as possible…

On Thursday 19 February at 11.00 Gmt, Orange II announced the damage to its starboard bow – the crash box having disappeared during the night – and its return to Lorient (Atlantic coast).     International America’s Cup Class
    For the 4th time in its history, Multiplast has once again been selected for the construction of the French challenger for the America’s Cup. Indeed, after F1, Ville de Paris and 6e Sens (semi-finalist in the Louis Vuitton’s Cup 2000 – in NZ), the yard confirms its position as a leader in the building of these ultra-sophisticated yachts. Apart from its accumulated know-how, Multiplast has several modular ovens for curing large composite structures, the biggest of which at 50 m (164 ft) long – unique in Europe – can take two IACCs under construction simultaneously.

    60 ft Gitana X
    As Geronimo left the yard at the end of July this year, Multiplast immediately started the new 60 ft Open class trimaran Gitana X. Already, this early fall, construction is well underway. The hull and floats are being laid up, the molds for the mast have been finished as have the beam molds. Launching is scheduled for spring 2002, which will enable Gitana X to compete in the international 60 ft multihull circuit (Orma). The concept which presided over the design and building of this new trimaran is biased more towards Grand Prix type events.

    Geronimo
    After having undergone sea trials lasting two and a half months and having clocked up more than 7000 miles, Olivier de Kersauson’s giant trimaran, Geronimo, is currently being prepared and fitted out for the Jules Verne Trophy, the non-stop round the world crewed record. The 34 m long trimaran should be crossing the starting line this winter in pursuit of the 71-day record which her skipper has held since 1997.

    10th August 2001 – 1130 GMT – Atlantic Record Attempt – Off Nova Scotia (Canada)
    Launched at more than 28 knots (52 kph) in a thick fog, the 32 m (105’) maxi catamaran Team Adventure hit an unidentified floating object. The shock was extremely violent. No injuries among American Cam Lewis’s crew, but the multihull was severely hit. Last week, Yann Penfornis of the Multiplast yard which built the boat, went to Vinalhaven, Maine (USA), the port where Team Adventure took refuge after the incident.
