The Gilles Ollier Design Team
The team :
The Design Team is made up of naval architects and consulting engineers. It takes care of the design and/or management of construction built by the MULTIPLAST shipyard. The Design Team can also work as as yacht designers for external projects.
Gilles OLLIER has set up a team of three yacht designers comprising Yann PENFORNIS, Franck MARTIN and Jack MICHAL.
Benefitting from the experience acquired over the past 25 years, all three eat, sleep and drink yacht racing and fast cruising.
Years of commitment to the highest levels in the field paid off by an exceptional international list of achievements.
A network of partners:
In order to perform well and to make rational choices, we have established a network of partners in specific areas of skill. The contributions of these specialists help us to nourish our thinking in domains such as meteorological analysis, hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, structural engineering calculations for composites along with finite element calculations and so on, further enriched by the expertise of those who sail.A method :
The GILLES OLLIER DESIGN TEAM is on the same premises as the build site, so it has its feet firmly on the ground. Each project is set into a defined time and budget slot. It is important to adopt and adhere to efficient and reactive working methods with fast decision making circuits. The Design Team has high performance tools and internal standards which have been improved throughout the 25 year long experience. These tools and standards aim to achieve a two-fold objective set by the design team: performance and reliability.
The tools :
The Design Team has performance tools at its disposal in order to meet the design requirements of its various projects. Some of those projects are developed in house, to draw up models and analyze different concepts as quickly as possible. Many more potential solutions are able to be explored than with traditional tools. One of these tools operates in a parametric way enabling the importance of one particular detail to be ascertained within the context of the whole project. This unique tool enables the company to hone hulls extremely finely in a minimum time span and to respond to a whole range of problematic situations which might arise, such as optimizing a measurement rule, stability, speed and so on.
Coupled up with simulation and digital flow analysis tools, enables the yard to draw up a hierarchy of the concepts studies very swiftly indeed.
It may also be possible to automate a chain of tools depending on the particular project.
Structural engineering calculations for composites are carried out as finite elements in order to optimize weight and reliability before building gets underway. On certain projects, the processes are double-checked with two different operators working with different software applications in order to ensure the validity of the results.
