TOTAL RELIABILITY FOR MULTIPLAST BOATS AND MASTS IN ROUTE DU RHUM
All Multiplast boats and masts arrived safely in Pointre-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe at the end of this year’s Route du Rhum.
This years Rhum was hotly contested among the leaders, and Multiplast boats and masts were always in the leading group from start to finish.
Marc Guillemot’s brand new Biscuits La Trinitaine, launched from the Multiplast yard just last summer, was up with the leaders all the way and suffered no technical problems, finishing 4th just minutes behind 3rd place Franck Cammas's Groupama (with a Multiplast mast). In fact there were two Multiplast masts on the podium, because 2nd placed Alain Gautier’s Brocéliande is also equipped by the South Brittany yard.Paul Vatine’s Chauss’Europ – all Multiplast platform - led the dance for a half the race until a genoa furler problem deprived Paul of sail power.
Francis Joyon on Banque Populaire brought his Multiplast mast home and safe after a Southerly option which did not pay off, despite coming back strongly in the latter days of the race. Finally, congratulations to young hopeful François-René Carluer who brought his 60 ft Laiterie de Mont St. Michel home in an honourable 8th place. His boat is none other than the Multiplast built ex-Elf Aquitaine III with an already impressive track record,11 years old and still going strong (with original carbon mast).
