ZODIAC AEROSPACE places its trust again in MULTIPLAST, for the construction of 2 new 5.5m diameter reflectors.

17/01/12

Multiplast begins 2012 with an order for 2 large parabolic reflectors identical to those it delivered to Zodiac Aerospace in June 2011. The contract was won thanks to a strict compliance to the required specifications at the time of the first order.

Precision and inter-changeability

Besides a very tight program, the challenge during the construction of the first reflector was respecting the very fine tolerances characteristic to this type of equipment, the inter-changeability of the outer elements, and the ease of construction of the assembly. Mounted on a trailer, these reflectors must be able to be assembled by 2 people in less than an hour.
Jack Michal, head of the project at Multiplast, "To complete in 7 months the structural calculations, the validation of the materials, the drawings, the mould fabrication and the production of the first reflector was a challenge. The work was undertaken in tight cooperation with our collaborators at Zodiac Aerospace and it is with pride that we can announce that they have placed their trust in Multiplast for the construction of two new reflectors."

Anti-icing system…

For Multiplast, the most important advance of this reflector was the incorporation of an anti-icing system integrated at the heart of the carbon fibre skin. This function, essential to the end user of the equipment, was the result of a considerable study by our technical department. The solution selected allows the reflective surface to remain at 4°C in a surrounding temperature of minus 15°C.

Technical Characteristics of the reflector

Diameter of the reflector: 5.5 m
Frequency Band: Band X
Mass: Approximately 380kg
Material: Nomex® sandwich / carbon / epoxy
Number of dismountable petals: 8
Road size (dismantled): Width 2.4m
Anti-icing system: Electric with electronic regulation
