Multiplast enters the New Space

DESCRIPTION

MULTIPLAST took its first steps in the space industry by manufacturing four launch vehicle fairings for a new European player based in Germany.

For this demanding application, our client was won over by our Out Of Autoclave (OOA) co-curing technology, which allows the heat shield and outer skin of the sandwich structure to be assembled in a single step. This innovative solution can withstand extreme temperatures of close to 400°C during atmospheric re-entry.

Our teams rose to this challenge by mastering the following key parameters:

  • High precision interfaces
  • Composite with high glass transition temperature (Tg)
  • Excellent rigidity
  • Low mass

Frequently asked questions

What material is used as a heat shield for a rocket fairing

+

To protect the launcher fairing from heat, it is covered with 2 to 6 mm of agglomerated cork. This ablative material protects the composite by burning gradually. This characteristic is combined with good thermal insulation up to 400°C, low density and ease of shaping.
